Farmers markets

A selection of Farmers Markets is listed here that are held in or close to the Norfolk Coast AONB providing produce from the area. With most Farmers Markets held monthly and some only seasonal obtaining accurate up-to-date information is difficult so we would appreciate users and organisers to help provide any additional details, changes or missing locations to our office.

The farmers market movement has grown dramatically from its beginnings in Bath in 1997 and there are several farmers markets in Norfolk and the surrounding counties. Since the words farmers market cannot be legally protected, in 2002 the National Association of Farmers Markets launched Certification to distinguish genuine farmers markets from imitators attempting to cash-in on the popularity of local food. Certified Farmers Markets are independently verified as working to nationally agreed guidelines. The guidelines state that the produce on sale must have originated on the stallholders farm or premises (reared, grown, baked, brewed or pickled) and the stall must be staffed by those involved in production. They must have travelled only a defined distance to reach the market, often this is 30 miles but it can be greater depending on local conditions.
