Horsey Mere

Where the eastern outlier of Norfolk Coast AONB uniquely overlaps the Broads designation on the east coast of Norfolk. Regarded for its internationally important wildlife it's also a great place for walking and bird watching throughout the year. A short, easy access walk from the car park and alongside the moorings as the pleasure craft come and go, past to the iconic windpum to the viewpoint over Horsey Mere.

Getting there: Signed on the B1159 coast road between Sea Palling and Somerton
by public transport:  Currently none direct to Horsey. Nearest train station Great Yarmouth
by cycling or walking:  Within easy reach of new England Coast Path and on the Norfolk Coast Cycleway

Windpump:  Entrance fee, open Easter-October 2017 note: Windpump restoration being carried out and due for completion 2018 – check for latest updates at if you are visiting specifically to look inside

Shop and café: Staithe Stores offers refreshments, open Easter-October. Nelson's Head PH in nearby Horsey

A compact visitor area is easy to explore with good information, seasonal boat trips (independent operator) onto Horsey Mere.

Toilets: Disabled and baby-changing facilities open dawn to dusk all year

Hire equipment available to borrow: None

Wheelchair access: Car park surfaced with disabled parking spaces provided, overflow grassed area. Sloped path to access walk around waterside and Mere viewing point. Ramp access to ground floor of windpump (prior to restoration).

For families: Buggy accessible. Note: this is boat mooring area so has mooring ropes and open water.
