Norfolk Coast Cycleway

The map guide was developed by the Norfolk Coast Cycling Initiative using Sustrans National route 1 and regional route 30 following quiet roads and lanes through varied countryside between King’s Lynn and Great Yarmouth via Cromer. On the reverse of the main map are a selection of ‘explorer loops and links’ which include the routes below. Copies of the ‘Norfolk Coast by Bike’ maps are available through Tourist Information centres along the route and direct from Sustrans.

The miles on the loops is the total on the described route but you can just choose part of or make up your own with the map. To give an idea of the loops we have scanned them from the printed map and attached as individual pdf downloads so you can try one out before purchasing the complete map.
Loops 1& 2
1. Ingoldisthorpe Explorer Loop (18 miles)
Fine views dominate along this route which travels pretty, winding lanes for much of its length. In some sections the high hedge lanes take on an almost cosy feel. If you're feeling energetic try outpacing the deer as you ride the boundaries of Houghton Hall park! An easy and delightful ride.

2. Sandringham Explorer Loop (22 miles)
It's a touch of Royalty for much of this route, and it shows in well kept roadsides, pretty cottages, and delightful wooded areas. You truly get away from the traffic, as this route has some well surfaced off-road sections. An easy ride that's easy on the eye, but it's best to use mountain bikes. Please keep to the waymarked routes in the Sandringham Estate.

3. Ringstead Explorer Loop (23 miles)
Although there is plenty of interest, the western loop of this route does involve some busy roads, so please be careful. However the link between Hunstanton and Heacham avoids traffic by following the sea wall.

4. Docking Explorer Loop (32 miles)
A true 'get away from it all' route that explores deep into the Norfolk Countryside. There's little to disturb the peace of this ride, apart from the dramatic appearance of Houghton Hall and its bounding white deer, and an unexpected discovery of German war graves. Fairly gentle ride but challenging undulations in parts.

Not truly a 'loop' as this explorer invites you to literally get out, explore and enjoy the Quiet Lanes network around the National Cycleway route. Covering 36 miles and marked by distinctive signs, this national pilot project to make minor rural links better for all road users encourages motoriest to use the most suitable routes and ask all users to be considerate towards each other when travelling on a Quiet Lane. They also provide links to the public footpath and bridleway networks. more
